The Max Letters is a unique story experience. It's the story of Prince Max and his fantastic friends in a land of legends, elves, wizards and magical kingdoms, told through beautiful chapter letters delivered to your mailbox.
It's a fun way to consume an epic adventure story, with the nostalgic magic we all remember of receiving a handwritten letter in the mail - sealed, stamped and posted to your mailbox. We want to keep this special experience alive for children - and adults too! - everywhere.
Yes! Once you purchase your subscription, a list of Question Prompts will be made immediately available to you in the form of a PDF that can be downloaded or printed. These question prompts correspond with each chapter letter, and are meant to spark conversation with a young reader you gift, so that you may "keep up" with their story journey, even if you aren't reading the letters. They'll also help you to explore your young reader's thoughts and discuss deeper themes in the text such as friendship, courage, truth and more. All are able to be navigated at the age appropriate level of your young reader.
The basic plot is this:
Prince Max, realizing no one has an answer for King Randrew’s failing health, seizes upon an unlikely legend as a desperate hope to save his father. With the elf Jumpjilter he begins a secret quest to find the wizard of Doonadim at the end of the world. Facing many tests of his courage and purpose, he steps unknowingly into the mystical cloud kingdom of Izmah where he learns truths of himself and the challenge of bringing the bitter wizard back into a world of hidden dangers.
Yes! The author read this story aloud to his children at bedtime when they were around 6 and 7 years old, so you'd be carrying on a lovely tradition if you read aloud to your family as well. The content contains action and adventure, but nothing inappropriate.
Sort of. Kind of. Not really. The content of our chapter letters are taken from the author's second book in The Max Series, The Clouds of Izmah. But this experience is something different. It came out of a wild idea to turn an already wonderful story into something extra special and fun by telling it with beautiful art and illustrations, allowing it to build excitement and unfold across time.
This, combined with the love and nostalgia we remember as kids, being so excited to open our own piece of mail that had been written, stamped and sent to us with care... We just had to give it a try – and sure enough, we think there's something special to this experience, and we hope you love it too!
We mail letters on the 14th and 28th of each month. (When these days fall on a holiday or weekend we mail on the previous business day.) You will have the option to select your own starting mail date at checkout. This way you will have the ability to begin the subscription right away (at our next mail date) or delay your first letter due to a special occasion like a birthday or holiday.
