The Max Letters is a unique story experience. It's the story of Prince Max and his fantastic friends on a quest to find the greatest treasure in the land, told through 24 beautiful chapter letters across 12 months.
It's a fun way to consume an epic - award-winning! - adventure story, with the nostalgic magic we all remember of receiving a handwritten letter in the mail - sealed, stamped and posted to your mailbox. We want to keep this special experience alive for children - and adults too! - everywhere.
Like the original Max Letters story, Folktales of Gaspaar is also set in the magical kingdom of Gaspaar. It is also a year-long story experience, told through 24 letters across 12 months.
The difference is, the Folktales of Gaspaar is not one epic adventure story. It is a collection of 24 magical tales, each told in its own letter.
The fact that each letter brings a new story makes the Folktales of Gaspaar easier for younger readers / listeners who might not be old enough to keep up with one epic adventure story that spans 24 letters.
Created in the same year-long letters format of the original Max Letters story, the Folktaales of Gaspaar is a fun way to consume a great story, with the nostalgic magic we all remember of
receiving a handwritten letter in the mail - sealed, stamped and
posted to your mailbox. We want to keep this special experience alive
for children and adults everywhere.
A subscription includes 24 beautiful illustrated chapter letters mailed across 12 months' time. Each letter includes 2-3 physical pages, covered front-and-back in colorful story content. An introductory card with a small note to the reader is also included to "set the stage" in the reader's mind.
Once you purchase a subscription, a list of Question Prompts will be made immediately available to you in the form of a PDF that can be downloaded or printed. These question prompts correspond with each chapter letter, and are meant to spark conversation with a young reader you gift, so that you may "keep up" with their story journey, even if you aren't reading the letters. They'll also help you to explore your young reader's thoughts and discuss deeper themes in the text such as friendship, courage, truth and more. All are able to be navigated at the age appropriate level of your young reader.
The Max Letters basic plot is this:
The King sends three sons on a quest to
find the greatest treasure in the land. The one who succeeds shall be
crown prince. Max, following his heart against the logic of the quest
to fulfill his word, encounters amazing friends and challenges.
Stalked by an ancient evil which plots to bend the brothers’ quests
to its own ends, the prince is brought at last to face the Witch’s
Tower.
The Max Letters:
Every child is different, but generally ages 8-14 are the perfect age for The Max Letters - or if you would like to read the story to your child, even younger! My father, the author of this series, read my brother and me these stories starting at ages 6 and 7, and it was a delightful experience for us. Of course deeper meaning and a new level of enjoyment will come at each reading through the years. A good way to determine whether your child is a fit is to think of their fit for a comparable story – The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
Folktales of Gaspaar:
The Folktales are delightfully enjoyable short stories for any age, but have been written to be accessible to even younger readers than The Max Letters. Ages 6+ are the recommended age.
Yes! Any stories we offer are family-friendly and safe for all ears. The content contains action and adventure, but nothing inappropriate, or what anyone would deem controversial. To be clear (because we receive this particular question frequently!) there are nothing that is explicitly religious and there is nothing of a sexual nature in these stories. These stories are styled as classics and feature themes of courage, friendship and kindness.
The author read the Max Letters story aloud to his children at bedtime when they were around 6 and 7 years old, so you'd be carrying on a lovely tradition if you read aloud to your family as well.
Sort of. Kind of. Not really. The content of our Max Letters chapter letters are taken from the author's book The Witch's Tower in The Max Series. But this experience is something different. It came out of a wild idea to turn an already wonderful story into something extra special and fun by telling it with beautiful art and illustrations, allowing it to build excitement and unfold across time.
This, combined with the love and
nostalgia we remember as kids, being so excited to open our own piece of mail that had been written, stamped and sent to us with care... We just
had to give it a try – and sure enough, we think there's something
special to this experience, and we hope you love it too!
