Frequently asked questions

What is The Max Letters?

It's a fun way to consume an epic adventure story, with the nostalgic magic we all remember of receiving a handwritten letter in the mail - sealed, stamped and posted to your mailbox. We want to keep this special experience alive for children - and adults too! - everywhere.

What exactly does a subscription include?

A subscription includes 24 beautiful chapter letters mailed across 12 months' time. Each letter includes minimum 2-3 physical pages, covered front-and-back in colorful story content. An introductory card with a small note to the reader is also included in each.

Also included is a list of Question Prompts that will be made immediately available upon purchase, in the form of a PDF that can be downloaded or printed. What is the 'Question Prompts' I see mentioned?

Once you purchase a subscription, a list of Question Prompts will be made immediately available to you in the form of a PDF that can be downloaded or printed. These question prompts correspond with each chapter letter, and are meant to spark conversation with a young reader you gift, so that you may "keep up" with their story journey, even if you aren't reading the letters. They'll also help you to explore your young reader's thoughts and discuss deeper themes in the text such as friendship, courage, truth and more. All are able to be navigated at the age appropriate level of your young reader.

You can get a sneak peak of the Question Prompts here.
Before I buy, I want to know more specifics about the story.

The basic plot is this:

The King sends three sons on a quest to find the greatest treasure in the land. The one who succeeds shall be crown prince. Max, following his heart against the logic of the quest to fulfill his word, encounters amazing friends and challenges. Stalked by an ancient evil which plots to bend the brothers’ quests to its own ends, the prince is brought at last to face the Witch’s Tower.

What is the recommended age for this?

Every child is different, but generally ages 8-14 are the perfect age - or if you would like to read the story to your child, even younger! My father, the author of this series, read my brother and me these stories starting at ages 6 and 7, and it was a delightful experience for us. Of course deeper meaning and a new level of enjoyment will come at each reading through the years. Another way to determine whether your child is a fit is to think of their fit for a comparable story – The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Is the content family-frendly? Can I read this aloud to the whole family?

Yes! The author read this story aloud to his children at bedtime when they were around 6 and 7 years old, so you'd be carrying on a lovely tradition if you read aloud to your family as well. The content contains action and adventure, but nothing inappropriate.

Is this a book?

Sort of. Kind of. Not really. The content of our chapter letters are taken from the author's book The Witch's Tower in The Max Series. But this experience is something different. It came out of a wild idea to turn an already wonderful story into something extra special and fun by telling it with beautiful art and illustrations, allowing it to build excitement and unfold across time.

This, combined with the love and nostalgia we remember as kids, being so excited to open our own piece of mail that had been written, stamped and sent to us with care... We just had to give it a try – and sure enough, we think there's something special to this experience, and we hope you love it too!

I'd like all my kids to receive this. Can I add multiple names to the envelope?

Yes, you can send a subscription to multiple members of a household. Simply enter all of their names in the "Letter Recipient Name" field at checkout. For example:

First Name: "Sam, Ben & Allie"
Last Name: "Walker"

Or another popular option:

First Name: "The Walker"
Last Name: "Family"
When will I receive my letter?

We mail chapter letters on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. You will select the upcoming mail date of your choice at checkout, to tell us when you want your first letter to be mailed. This way, you can delay your first letter due to a special occasion (like a birthday) if you prefer.

Creators Robin Walker and David Walker

MEET THE CREATORS

A father & daughter team

Mississippi based father and daughter team David Walker and Robin Walker are the creators of The Max Letters. David is a retired public school teacher, author, and creative education consultant, known for his interactive classroom and summer adventures for middle grade students such as missions to Mars, exploring the deep sea, international detective academy, and Arthur’s school for chivalry at Camelot.

When Robin, a digital marketer, learned her dad was finally ready to “go public” with the Max stories that had long enchanted friends and family, that he had always held privately while publishing books across other genres, she convinced him to take a chance on a wild idea that involved transforming his treasured story and illustrations into something less like a book, and more like an experience. The Max Letters experience was born. We couldn't be more thrilled with how far we've come today, and thank all of our happy readers for supporting this fun, beloved project.
